Keeping ELK Updated

Excellent tutorial! I followed it today using Windows Server 2012 and was able to get ELK running. I noticed that Logstash and Elasticsearch have been updated since the tutorial was last updated.

What is the procedure to keep Logstash and Elasticsearch (and eventually Kibana) updated?

At the moment I'm most interested in updating Elasticsearch (from version 2.3.1) because version 2.3.2 is required to run Shield (https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/shi...hield.html#_shield_installation_prerequisites)

    Thank you

First of all thank you for reading my guide glad it helped you!

As far as I am aware as long as you stay within the 2.x release you can just do a rolling update, stop elastic search update it, update plugins and start it.
I never had any issue with it so far, just download new zip, unzip it and overwrite the current files.

You can find all details here: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/setup-upgrade.html

Depending on your situation it might be smart to test it in a test environment first if you have critical data.

Yep, the rolling upgrade worked. Made sure not to overwrite the config or data directories. Thanks!
